The sound on the Timeflies track is mainstream and extremely catchy however not being signed to a label works against them while trying to build a national fan base. The band relies heavily on word of mouth recommendations and social media publicity. While the song deserves national air-time it does not get brought straight to radio stations because it would then take the spot of a track, such as Clarity, that a record label is pushing for.

All The Way VS. Clarity
The two songs that I am comparing today are All the Way by Timeflies and Clarity by Zedd. These songs are alike in that they are both upbeat songs with catchy lyrics. The lyrics are easy to learn and also fun to sing a long to. When composing a hit song it is vital to think about the message and the purpose of the song. Both songs make the listener feel good and would be played in similar situations. The messages are similar in that they are about romantic relationships where the singer is in love and talking about how their partner makes them feel. The songs are both fast paced so the purpose is to make the listener happy and amped up.

Here is the song All the Way starts with a catchy guitar sound which makes the listener start swaying right off the bat. It then picks up immediately with lyrics that resonate with the listener, with the person's love the singer is invincible. There is then a techno beat that kicks in that makes the song similar to Clarity and gives it the mainstream sound. There is also a clapping effect which invites the audience to participate in the song. This song has great potential in todays market. The music industry is going towards a more "alternative" sound. People are looking for an upbeat song from a band with a strong social media following, which Timeflies has. In order to get played Timeflies needs someone to take a chance on them, they need to find a programer who believes in their music and helps them further their career.
The song Clarity is extremely popular on the radio. It was released by Interscope Records who had 18.8% of the market share in 2013, the most of any record label. The song starts slowly and the piano sounds engage the audience. The song then builds from a simple song to an upbeat, more fast-paced song. The lyrics get more intense along with the vocals so the listener is not only engaged by the music but the vocals as well. This song is great for any occasion, a night out dancing or a feel good drive in your car. This song began as a club hit with song recognition. Then people started buying the single which caught the attention of radio stations. The song began airing and tested well with both a younger and older demographic. The track peaked at #2 on the charts and outside of "Blurred Lines" was the most popular song of the summer.
